Splined Shaft

It is mostly used for retractable and sliding drive shafts in light-duty series. 

The external spline forms a spline pair with the internal spline (sliding yoke, sliding sleeve) to enable retractable sliding motion. 

The large head end is welded to the shaft tube, and the length of the shaft tube determines the overall length of the drive shaft.
